Hey! After reading the last entry on the introduction of oxytocin, I guess you guys should have an idea of what oxytocin is. Today's entry shall be about the use of oxytocin in humans!
Use of Oxytocin in Humans
Oxytocin is especially important for uterine contraction during child labour and breastfeeding. Oxytocin causes milk to be released and sucked by the newborn at the nipple. The sucking action by e baby stimulates the hypothalamus to produce oxytocin.
Have u ever wondered why mothers are sometimes so attached to their babies? Yes, you're right, it is again due to oxytocin! Similarly, fathers too get a rush of oxytocin when they see their babies for the first time. It is really amazing how oxytocin works in our system.
Here comes the interesting part. LOVE! The natural attraction between the opposite sex. Do you know why Fiona will fall in love with shrek even though he is an ugly monster? This is all because of oxytocin! Read on to find out more!
According to research, being touched anywhere on the body causes a rise in oxytocin levels. Next time you touch a friend, you can say, “Hey u have got a rise in your oxytocin level!” Haha.
Anyway, Oxytocin heightens that warm and fuzzy bonding feeling, increasing sexual receptiveness and intimacy. Considered by many to be the key lubricant in the machinery of sex, oxytocin also increases the desire to be touched further, reinforcing the cycle of sex hormone escalation.
